I started sewing as a young girl. Doll Clothes was my specialty until as a teen I began designing and sewing formal dresses for myself. In a few years time I was doing the same for friends.
My senior year in high school I was hired for my first "real" gig, a bridal party. I designed and sewed and fit five bridesmaids, varying sizes, in beautiful floral taffeta with puffed sleeves, butt bows, and full skirts. (It was the early 90's.)
I went on to study Fashion Design at BYU where I was chosen to be one of the designers in the 1996 CLTX Fashion Show "Stark and Bold". Before graduating I interned with a small mail-order catalog start up as a pattern maker and sample sewer. While in school I worked at a local bridal store doing alterations on bridal gowns and tuxedos. I also worked for a year at Nordstrom's, SLC, in their tailoring department under two exceptional master tailors.
I have had my own custom sewing business for 20 years now. Though I can do any kind of sewing I have specialized in formal attire and men's tailoring. I also enjoy pattern making and have done so for individuals and manufacturers.
I have lived in Laie, HI since June 2011. I enjoy surfing, gardening, and substitute teaching at the elementary school. I have recently taken a position at BYUH teaching the Costume Design and Construction class.
